extended version: The Flying Dutchman

An Ambush from Behind Festival to THE FLYING DUTCHMAN

An Ambush from Behind Festival for the FLYING DUTCHMAN with world premieres by Babelfis, Steve Mekoudja et al.
For 10 hours at a stretch, 10 artists from pop, performance art, literature and dance will perform Wagner's FLYING DUTCHMAN in order to retell it in an extended version and at the same time critically question it with their own art. The author, director and actor Jan Koslowski continues the successful series AUS DEM HINTERHALT and takes a closer look at one of Richard Wagner's most popular operas: it is considered his first "romantic opera", is a seafarer's tale, a horror play and a critique of capitalism, and deals with the redemption of the Dutchman, condemned to eternal restlessness, by a woman who sacrifices herself for him.

The topicality of the material becomes the subject of critical reflection and, together with Wagner's music, the material for a total of ten artistic contributions. In music, dance and visual art, with language and performance, HOLLÄNDER will be commented on from today's perspective or supplemented with everything that Wagner did not bring to the stage in this, his shortest opera. Alongside numerous other guest artists, the two Musicboard scholarship holders Steve Mekoudja and Babelfis will be performing, as well as singers and musicians from the ensembles of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
