Mon, 07. Dec 2020, 19:00
3rd final round with scoring by jury and announcement of prizes
The Bundeswettbewerb Gesang Berlin (Nationwide Song Contest Berlin) was set up in 1966 as a competition for soloist singers. Since 1979 it has been held annually, with the two categories - Musical / Chanson and Opera / Operetta / Concert - alternating in odd-numbered years and even-numbered years respectively. The Bundeswettbewerb Gesang promotes the feed-through of up-and-coming singers to German stages and is known for its focus on the range of an individual’s repertoire. Stage scouts and agents take a keen interest in the competition and regularly sign young artists.
Many former prizewinners are regular guest performers at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. They include Reinhard Hagen, Michaela Kaune, Nadja Michael, Christine Schäfer, Doris Soffel and Michael Volle.
Following elimination rounds held across Germany the best candidates in the National competition travelled to Berlin for the finals, to be held from 30th November to 4th December 2020 in the concert hall of Universität der Künste Berlin, Hardenbergstraße.
