SUMMARY:A Midsummer Night’s Dream
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Edward Clug’s staging of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’
s Dream\, set to music specially composed by Milko Lazar\, merges dream an
d reality on stage. Shakespeare’s comedy intertwines several storylines:
Two couples flee from a world of rigid societal norms and find themselves
in a realm of fairies. Hermia loves Lysander\, but her father\, Egeus\, i
nsists she marry Demetrius\, who is\, in turn\, pursued by Helena. In the
background looms the engagement of Theseus\, Duke of Athens\, and Hippolyt
a\, Queen of the Amazons\, which serves as a symbol of the impending weddi
ng and the restoration of order in the human world. Meanwhile\, Oberon\, K
ing of the Fairies\, and Queen Titania are locked in a bitter dispute\, th
e consequences of which ripple far beyond the fairy realm. Oberon’s misc
hievous servant\, Puck\, creates emotional chaos among the lovers. At the
same time\, a group of craftsmen\, led by Peter Quince\, rehearses a play
in the same forest. The clumsy yet ambitious Nick Bottom becomes entangled
in the intrigues of the fairy world. Through magical interventions\, the
characters’ relationships are thrown into disarray until the spell is fi
nally broken and balance is restored. Edward Clug’s interpretation highl
ights the timeless essence of the play: Shakespeare’s world\, where the
boundaries between love\, deception\, and self-discovery blur. Suitable fo
 r ages 5 and above
