The Komische Oper Berlin, located in the heart of the city between the Brandenburg Gate, the Museumsinsel, and Checkpoint Charlie, stands for contemporary, vital musical theatre. Its splendid, neo-baroque auditorium has room for 1190 audience members. Each year, more than 180,000 visitors come to be inspired by diverse programme of the venue voted best opera house in 2007. At the Komische Oper Berlin, some of today's most important and interesting opera directors work together with head director and theatre manager Andreas Homoki, Calixto Bieito, Sebastian Baumgarten, Barrie Kosky, Hans Neuenfels, and others to stage operas by composers such as Handel, Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, and Strauss, as well as the Slavic repertoire, operettas, musicals, children's operas, and contemporary works.
Andreas Homoki is chief director as well as general director of the House since the 2004/05 season. Carl St. Clair was general music director from 2008 till the season 2009/10. Patrick Lange – up until now capellmeister – is chief musical director from the season 2010/11 onwards.
